A software package has been developed that allows the retrieval of reclamation information. Called MICROMAP, this software utilizes a technique known as "interactive graphics" to obtain such information as general mine information, water quality data, revegetation data, and overburden data from the Coal Reclamation Information System. MICROMAP runs on any IBM PC compatible microcomputer. The user simply enters the state and the counties from which information is desired. The computer will display a map of the counties and pinpoint all locations where information exists. There are 4 search modes available through which information is retrieved. The user can select a mode in which a cursor is moved to a desired location and the radius around this point. A second search mode is a specific 7.5 minute USGS quadrangle search, where the user simply specifies some 7.5 minute quad. A third search mode is one in which the user specifies a specific latitude-longitude and radius. A fourth search mode allows the user to bring in an external data file containing digitized coordinates taken from other maps. The computer searches the area designated by one of the four search modes and extracts the information such as general mine information, water quality, overburden analyses, and revegetation. The data are current up to 1986 for Northern West Virginia. A spreadsheet is also available to update and add new information.
